Ahmed is one of Bluestem Health’s smiling Front Desk Receptionists and so much more. He and his wife, Khalida, came to the United States after fleeing war in Iraq. It took them several years with numerous setbacks, but they arrived safely to Lincoln, Nebraska in April of 2016. He hopes to visit his family in Europe and Iraq once he becomes a US citizen. Ahmed is eager to be able to begin the citizenship process, now that he has been a resident for three years. He loves the United States; everything from fireworks, to Halloween costumes, and Christmas trees because as he says proudly, “This is now my country too, and I feel a part of the community!”
At this moment in life, Ahmed finds strength in the words of Theodore Roosevelt, “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” His own mother, who is the kindest, smartest, and strongest person he has known, modeled this well for Ahmed and his siblings.
Ahmed joined Bluestem Health in January of 2018. He was a former patient and his brother Faisal works here as an interpreter, so he grew to know and love Bluestem Health before becoming a part of the team.
Unable to finish his education in Iraq because of the war, Ahmed has since completed a 120 hour Medical Terminology course and has become a member of (NATI) Nebraska Association of translators and Interpreters. Ahmed appreciates when Kurdish or Arabic speaking patients come in to the clinic because he is able to help them right away at the front desk. Ahmed says it is very busy at the front desk, but he likes it because he is proud of the work he does and the services Bluestem Health provides for the community. He also appreciates that his coworkers always have smiles on their faces and are eager to help.
We are fortunate to have Ahmed here sharing his kindness, patience, and knowledge with our Bluestem Health patients.
