Our new Bluestem Health Piedmont Clinic is OPEN and accepting patients at the Bryan Health East Medical Plaza, located at 1500 South 48th Street, Suite 412, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Bluestem Health is pleased to introduce three new family medicine providers to the Lincoln community – two of which will be at our new Piedmont family medicine clinic location.
Andrew Shahan, MD, received his Medical Degree from Newman University in Wichita, Kansas and is board certified in Family Medicine. Following his family medicine residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Shahan joined the U.S. Air Force and worked as an Emergency Medicine physician while stationed in Korea, and most recently, in Germany, before returning to the U.S. Dr. Shahan works at the Bluestem Health Piedmont Clinic.
Reba Cooksley, DNP, APRN-NP, FNP-C, is a board certified nurse practitioner in Family Medicine. She recently completed both her Master’s Degree in Nursing and Advanced Nurse Practitioner training in Family Medicine. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Reba worked as a nurse for five years in the Neurotrauma Critical Care Unit at Bryan Health. Reba works at the Bluestem Health Piedmont Clinic.
Heather Kleeman, DO, is board certified in Family Medicine care in Lincoln, Nebraska. She attended A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO, earning her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Kleeman works at Health 360, offering family medicine and obstetrics care. She considers herself an advocate for her patients.
Medicaid is expanding in Nebraska so that more people will have access to healthcare. Bluestem Health accepts Medicaid insurance.
If you have applied for Medicaid before but did not qualify, you may qualify now, as of August 1, 2020. Medicaid has expanded the income requirements and those benefiting from this change will be Nebraskans whose income is at or below 138% of the poverty level, or approximately $16,000 a year for one person. The following are answers to questions you may have about your eligibility.
The new Medicaid category is called Heritage Health Adult. It expands Medicaid benefits to low-income, able-bodied adults of working age who are 19 – 64 years old. You must meet income requirements to apply. Most newly eligible Nebraskans will start with the Basic Benefits Package which includes doctor services, emergencies, hospitalization, maternity and newborn, wellness visits, and more. Newly eligible Nebraskans who are 19 – 20 years old, pregnant, or medically frail will receive the Prime Benefits Package, which is the Basic Benefits Package, plus dental services, vision services, and over-the-counter medications.
Nebraska is accepting new applications and those who qualify can expect to have their Medicaid coverage implemented on October 1, 2020.
